Chinese Acupunture and Moxibustion

(A) Information about Chinese acupunture & Moxibustion

Acupunture and moxibustion are fast gaining popularity in the west as an alternative way to treat illnesses. This technique is an ancient Chinese discovery to treat various illnesses. Traditional Chinese medicine claims that all illnesses are due to a misbalance of positive and negative forces in the body. Through the technique of acupuncture and moxibustion they aim to restore the body’s balance making it easy for the body to help itself recover.
Traditionally acupuncture requires the insertion of needles into various points of the body known as ‘acupoints’. This releases a burst of energy that radiates in a specific direction. According to the nature of the body’s condition the acupuncturist decides whether this energy needs to be increased or decreased for the body to recover.

(B) Different Chinese acupunture & Moxibustion

Whereas acupuncture involves treating the body by the insertions of needles moxibustion techniques uses fire to cure illness. There are various ways to get treatment under these two forms. Acupunture involves muscular therapies, massage therapies and self regulation therapies. Since this ancient technique has reached the modern west many new ways such as electric and laser acupuncture have been developed on the same principles.

Moxibustion; the treatment with fire, also has a number of ways in which it can work. The most commonly used methods are that of Moxa and cupping. This technique works by covering the effected area with a jar and applying heat to it which results in sucking the disease out of the body. It has the effect of improving the blood circulation in the affected area. Many new techniques have also been invented for moxibustion.
